Frequently Asked Questions
How much shade/coverage does it actually give?
Coverage is usually listed in degrees (180°, 270°), but real usable shade also depends on sun angle and time of day. A 270° awning gives flexibility to chase shade throughout the day; a 180° is simpler and cheaper but less adaptable.
Can I set it up solo, or do I need help?
Most awnings are designed for one-person setup in a few minutes, but larger 270° models can be easier with two people, especially the first few times.
Does it hold up in wind?
This is the #1 real-world concern. Ask about wind rating and whether guy-lines/stakes are included — an awning without proper anchoring in wind is a genuine failure point, not just an inconvenience.
Can I use it with a roof top tent at the same time?
Usually yes, but mounting position matters — check that your rack has room for both without interference.
Is it waterproof or just water-resistant?
Important distinction — ask for the actual fabric rating (denier + waterproof rating), not just "weatherproof" marketing language.
